Piracy (Copyright Piracy): Crime or part of the development of technology?

Think about it, and you'll find that there's a positive thing about piracy.
Napster, The Pirate Bay and everything in between.

No denying that the Internet has become part of modern human life. Almost all over the world using the internet, with the positive and negative sides contained therein. One that is often a controversial topic is hijacking or piracy, which has become the most commonly used internet users to get music, movies or books they want.

Long history of piracy around the world; concerning file-sharing system triggers first and how governments in some countries try to eradicate it. Clearly all the books, music and movies that you can get easily derived from the idea of someone named Shawn Fanning brilliant.

It started from file-sharing idea

Fanning, with Sean Parker and a few other friends decided to create a community site where the users can easily share music files in mp3 format. This occurred in 1999, and the whole world suddenly presence uproar with Napster. With ease, the Internet users are able to share their favorite songs with other users, and this happened long before the Internet became as popular now.

Napster can be regarded as a revolution, because the idea behind the workings of their own Napster widespread and eventually adapted many other websites. Napster originally just a forum with students on several campuses, and eventually spread throughout the world to use tens of millions of users.

Not only the record company, the band and musicians such as Metallica and Dr. Dre had come to sue Napster who they consider to have been violated copyright. Metallica discovered that a demo version of the song I Disappear who was not yet released can be found in Napster and can be downloaded for free. However, as a logic, a bit ironic when rock band Metallica perform movements such as this.

"Like Metal was supposed to be about like being renegade and being like, anti-establishment and sticking it to the man. So it’s kinda ironic that this metal band was suing us. It was like Metal and Gangsta Rap. Like the two least likely people to go after us were the one who were suing us."

The Pirate Bay or known as the TPB does not specialize in music files, but more than that. Movies, books and any other file types can be found in easily and free TPB. Emerging TPB re-draw the government's attention, thus violating copyright TPB prosecuted in 2009. The same case happen, but apparently the upper class never gets the message that they should learn from this.

Should we fight it?

Behind all the demands of the received file-sharing sites such as Napster and TPB, they turned out to bring a lot of positive impact. Napster had brought an indie band called Dispatch on success, due to file-sharing is done indirectly Napster makes Dispatch known to many people. Proved after the Dispatch in the list of bands on Napster, CD sales they increased, the fans who attended the concert much easier to memorize their songs, Dispatch increasingly widespread fanbase.

TPB himself once praised by Michael Lombardo, the president of HBO programming. TPB is responsible for the printed record as the Game of Thrones TV series of the most widely downloaded, but Lombardo casually said that the record of the effect on their success even make himself flattered.

It is worth noting, because not a few examples that prove that the technology can not be resisted and had to follow the current. That made the big boss of the record companies and movie studios are demanding their own customers, and it is so bad. Technology and various features in it continues to grow with new systems and ways of working, and it became a separate demand for creative industries to follow the ongoing flow. Some people like celebrities or music observers open their eyes wide open about it and agreed that the technology could not be resisted.

"I don't think people are stealing music. I think the record companies are not adjusting to technlogy. But rather than adjust and figure out how to work with it and use it, they fought it. And they started to sue their customers. I think that alienated them from both the public and the artists."
Chris Blackwell,  Island Records

Piracy is still a controversial topic between the pro and cons. All the decision is in your hands, Whether you're gonna fight it or continue downloading movies with it.
